Cool Green Solar (http://www.coolgreensolar.com), a division of Dream Design Builders, and the Consuelo Masonic Lodge No. 325 recently held a formal San Diego Gas & Electric energy bill cutting ceremony. The mid-June event celebrated the Escondido Masonic Center going solar for today and the future. Representatives of Cool Green Solar, a division of Dream Design Builders, were on hand to show a time-lapsed video of the installation process and answer lodge members’ questions. Lodge leaders formally dedicated their solar installation project to the Lodge No. 325 Masons of the future. Food and refreshments were served. The Escondido Masonic Center is located at 1331 South Escondido Blvd. in Escondido, California.
In March 2010 the Consuelo Masonic Lodge No. 325 entered into an agreement with Cool Green Solar for a 22-kilowatt solar power project. The members’ commitment to “going green” represented the second solar project to date for Masonic Lodges throughout the United States and the State of California’s first.
Cool Green Solar engineers did the research to make sure the organization received the best non-profit rates available for both their building and the Masons’ electrical usage. The San Diego-based solar company made a detailed presentation to the Lodge No. 325 members. The local members then presented the solar project to the Grand Lodge of California for their review and final approval. One requirement that had to be met was that the solar panels be American made. Cool Green Solar used San Diego-based and manufactured Silken USA solar modules. The 99 rooftop solar panel system offsets the Escondido Masonic Center’s electric bill by 75 percent. Projections forecast the Lodge will save $375,000 over the 25-year life span of the system.
